City Highlights

Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf

Rhenish lifestyle between tradition and modernity - Düsseldorf inspires with diversity! Here art and culture lovers get just as enthusiastic as shopping enthusiasts, here the Media Harbor impresses with contemporary architecture as well as the historic Old Town. The old town makes Düsseldorf with more than 250 cozy pubs to the "longest bar in the world". The traditional Altbier is not the only tasty thing here! A stroll along the Königsallee, the world-famous strolling mile, is something one does not want to miss - or rather a visit to one of the numerous sympathetic flea markets? And in the middle of it all: lots of Green and the Rhine with its riverside promenade to breathe easy . No wonder the VIVA Cruises family feels right at home here!

Cologne

Cologne

Cologne is an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is one of the few cities in the Federal Republic of Germany with over a million inhabitants. The Cologne Cathedral is the landmark of the city, which is located directly on the banks of the Rhine and the main train station. A cable car runs across the Rhine, providing a fantastic view of the city. The local zoo and stadium are a real attraction for young and old. The carnival is an important part and is just as much a part of it as a typical brewery.

Frankfurt

Frankfurt

Connected to the Danube via the Main-Danube Canal, Frankfurt is one of the most unique cities in Germany. After all, it is the only city with a skyline of skyscrapers. A view of the metropolis from the observation deck of the MAIN TOWER is a very special experience. However, Frankfurt is not only a very modern and busy city, but also has a lot of history to offer its visitors. For example, the Römer and the Paulskirche are among the most famous historical sights in Germany. And when it comes to art and culture, Frankfurt is also an absolute hotspot. With almost 40 museums and exhibition houses, the Frankfurt Museumsufer is one of the most important international museum locations.

.
Berlin

Berlin

Berlin is the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Due to its great historical and contemporary significance, the city has many sights to offer.

First of all, some well-known landmarks should probably be mentioned here: The Brandenburg Gate, the TV tower and the Victory Column. In addition, all important government buildings are also located here: for example, the Reichstag with the famous Reichstag dome is definitely worth a visit. Furthermore, there are the sites of some important historical events to see, such as "Checkpoint Charlie" or the "East Side Gallery", a remnant of the Berlin Wall. There is also no lack of shopping opportunities, so among other things the Kurfürstendamm is very well known.

Stuttgart

Stuttgart

Welcome to the capital of Baden-Württemberg - Stuttgart. In addition to a special cultural density, great landscapes and lots of wine, there are plenty of leisure activities and sights in Stuttgart. The picture shows the New Palace and reminds of the Palace of Versailles in France, which one even served as inspiration for the impressive building in Stuttgart. Other places worth visiting are the TV Tower, the Museum StadtPalais or the largest multi-discipline house in Europe - the Staatstheaer Stuttgart - a three-discipline house with drama, opera and ballet.

.
Passau

Passau

Due to its special geographical location at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, Passau is undoubtedly one of the most unique cities in Germany. But not only the location of the city on the three rivers is exceptional, Passau also offers its visitors numerous remarkable sights. Towering above the city is the Veste Oberhaus, an impressive fortress dating back to the 13th century. The old town of Passau is known for its beautiful baroque architecture, especially the Cathedral of St. Stephen with its characteristic onion domes and the largest cathedral organ in the world with almost 18,000 pipes.

.
Rüdesheim

Rüdesheim

The picturesque town of Rüdesheim is located directly on the Rhine in Hesse and has many attractions, such as the famous Drosselgasse, where there are numerous wine bars, but also a castle and a torture museum, where medieval torture instruments and the history of the Inquisition are exhibited. A cable car goes up to the Niederwald Monument, which is located above the town. From here you can take a beautiful hike through pristine woodlands and then come to the chairlift that leads directly to Assmannshausen. This is also located on the Rhine.

Bernkastel

Bernkastel

Numerous half-timbered houses adorn the town of Bernkastel, directly on the Moselle River. Above is a castle with a restaurant and in the old town you can find numerous small boutiques and stores. The Moselle invites to an unforgettable boat trip, but also to kayak or canoe. Bernkastel is known for its ideal location on the Moselle and for its quaint old town. Together with Kues it forms a double town, on the left and on the right of the banks of the Moselle, with numerous restaurants and bars.

Trier

Trier

Trier impresses with its buildings from the Roman era - first and foremost the well-preserved Porta Nigra. But also the churches of the city are worthwhile destinations during a visit. The oldest city in Germany was founded by the Romans around the year 16 BC under Emperor Augustus. Charlemagne made the city an archbishopric. In hardly any other German city are the legacies of the Romans as numerous as in Trier. You can even drink them in the form of wine. The wine terraces along the valleys of the Moselle and Saar rivers look back on 2000 years of history.

Our Germany River Cruise Highlights
something for everyone!

To get to know the highlights of the Rhine, VIVA Cruises offers you two different river cruises at once.

The 4-night cruise "Rhine Highlights" begins in Frankfurt am Main, where you can not only marvel at the skyscrapers of the banking metropolis, but also delve deep into German history at Römerberg, Paulskirche Church and Goethe House. The first stop on this river cruise on the Rhine is the extraordinary city of Mannheim. Extraordinary because the rectangular street pattern is more reminiscent of New York City than a German city. In addition to the traffic architecture, take a look at Mannheim's city palace and water tower. Next stop on the river cruise is Speyer, steeped in history, which undoubtedly has one of the most beautiful old towns in Germany with its massive sandstone cathedral and many other historic buildings. Another highlight of this Rhine river cruise is Strasbourg, best known for its cathedral and half-timbered houses. On the way back to Frankfurt, make another stop in Mainz, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. Enjoy the flair of the city with a glass of wine on one of the cozy squares or in one of the spacious green areas.

The 5-night "Rhine Highlights" cruise takes you from Cologne through the Middle Rhine Valley to Mannheim. On this river cruise through Germany on the Rhine, discover the countless impressive castles along the river with such melodious names as Ehrenfels, Loreley and Rheinstein. In addition, this cruise takes you to some of Germany's most beautiful and historic cities. Experience over 2000 years of history in the old towns of Koblenz, Cologne, Mainz and Speyer and visit two of the most impressive church buildings in Europe, Cologne Cathedral and Speyer Cathedral. A river cruise on the Rhine is also a special experience for wine drinkers. In the wine cellars along the river you can taste some of the finest drops from German cultivation. Especially in "wine towns" like Rüdesheim or Mainz, a wine from the Rhine can be enjoyed in a tranquil atmosphere.

On this Rhine River cruise, you will experience the interesting contrasts that the country's longest river has to offer you. Your Rhine River cruise begins in the lively metropolis of Düsseldorf with its countless pubs, lively art scene and luxurious shopping. Things are more tranquil in the former federal capital of Bonn. But contemplative does not mean boring at all. Especially people interested in history will get their money's worth here. The river cruise then takes you through the idyllic Middle Rhine Valley to the Rheingau region. With the historic Boppard and the wine town of Rüdesheim, you will finally get to know two of the most picturesque places on the banks of the Rhine.
