"Iron Gate" - what sounds like from times long gone, is probably the most imposing valley breakthrough in Europe. It forms the border between Serbia and Romania on the left side of the Danube. While the Danube at this section was once an unpredictable and dangerous wild river, the construction of this dam in 1972 made it possible to tame the forces of nature and make the stunning natural surroundings accessible to all boats.

Your journey to the Iron Gate starts in Vienna and from there heads to Osijek in Croatia, Belgrade and Golubac, where this mighty dam will captivate you. Via Donji Milanovac and Novi Sad in Serbia you will finally reach Budapest and Esztergom in Hungary as well as Bratislava in Slovakia. Look forward to a journey in which you will travel through some of the most beautiful cities and regions of the southern Danube.
